Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera, born on January 12, 1987, was a multifaceted American actress, singer, and model, best known for her iconic role as Santana Lopez on the acclaimed musical comedy-drama series Glee. Rivera's journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age, as she started her career as a child actress and model, appearing in national television commercials. At just four years old, she made her television debut in the CBS sitcom The Royal Family, earning a Young Artist Award nomination by the age of five.

Her breakthrough came in 2009 with Glee, where her portrayal of Santana Lopez garnered critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and an ALMA Award. Rivera's talent extended beyond acting; she signed with Columbia Records in 2011 and released the single 'Sorry' in 2013, winning two ALMA Awards for her contributions to music.

In addition to her on-screen success, Rivera was a passionate advocate for various charitable causes, including LGBT rights, immigrants' rights, and women's rights. She was vocal about issues of racism in the entertainment industry and used her platform to promote inclusivity. Her personal life was often in the spotlight, and in 2016, she published her memoir, Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up, reflecting on her experiences and challenges.

Tragically, on July 8, 2020, Rivera drowned at Lake Piru while heroically saving her four-year-old son during a boating accident. After a five-day search, her body was recovered on July 13. At the time of her passing, she was involved in the television series Step Up, where she played the role of Collette Jones. Rivera's legacy as a pioneer for Afro-Latino and LGBTQ representation in television continues to inspire many.
