During this time, he not only provided the bandleader with innovative versions of classics like 'Woodchopper's Ball' and 'Blowin' Up a Storm' but also composed original pieces such as 'The Good Earth' and 'Wild Root.' After leaving Herman's band in nineteen forty-six, Hefti shifted his focus entirely to composition and arrangement.
