Nedjemibre

Nedjemibre, an ephemeral pharaoh of the 13th Dynasty of Egypt, ruled during the tumultuous Second Intermediate Period, around one thousand seven hundred eighty BC or one thousand seven hundred thirty-six BC. His reign, though brief, is a point of interest for Egyptologists who have debated his place within the dynasty.

According to scholars Kim Ryholt and Darrell Baker, Nedjemibre is recognized as the twelfth pharaoh of the 13th Dynasty. However, Detlef Franke and Jürgen von Beckerath argue that he should be classified as the eleventh ruler. This discrepancy highlights the complexities of ancient Egyptian history and the challenges faced by modern historians in piecing together the past.

Our knowledge of Nedjemibre is primarily derived from the Turin canon, a significant king list from the early Ramesside period. His name appears in the seventh column, line fourteen, and is noted for a remarkably short reign lasting only seven months, with some days lost to history.

Following Nedjemibre's brief rule, Khaankhre Sobekhotep ascended the throne. Notably, Sobekhotep's lineage remains unrecorded, leading Ryholt to suggest that he may have usurped the throne, indicating a possible power struggle during this period.
