Neil Etheridge, born on February seventh, nineteen ninety, is a professional footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Buriram United in the Thai League 1. Hailing from England, he has proudly represented the Philippines national team at the international level, where he also serves as captain.
Etheridge's football journey began at Chelsea, where he spent three years as a trainee before joining the Fulham Academy. He made his debut for Fulham in the UEFA Europa League against Odense Boldklub, although he did not feature in any league matches during his time there. Between two thousand six and two thousand fourteen, he was loaned to several lower-tier clubs, including Leatherhead, Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, and Crewe Alexandra.
After leaving Fulham, he signed with Oldham Athletic, later being loaned back to Charlton Athletic. In two thousand fifteen, he joined Charlton on a permanent basis after his contract with Oldham ended. Following a brief period without a club, Etheridge signed with Walsall, where he made over ninety appearances in all competitions across two seasons. His career took a significant turn when he joined Cardiff City in two thousand seventeen, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and helping the team secure promotion to the Premier League.
In two thousand twenty, he moved to Birmingham City, another Championship club, but was released in two thousand twenty-four. He then signed with Buriram United. On the international stage, Etheridge has a unique background, with one British and one Filipino parent. He initially represented England at the under-16 level but has been a key player for the Philippines since two thousand eight, even captaining the team. Notably, in August two thousand eighteen, while with Cardiff City, he became the first Filipino to play in the Premier League.
