Nellie Kim

Nellie Kim, born on July twenty-ninth, nineteen fifty-seven, is a celebrated retired gymnast who represented the Soviet Union and Belarus. With a rich heritage of Sakhalin Korean and Tatar descent, she made her mark in the world of artistic gymnastics during the 1970s, a period defined by fierce competition and remarkable talent.

At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Kim showcased her extraordinary skills, winning three gold medals and a silver medal. Her performance was particularly notable as she became the second woman in Olympic history to achieve a perfect score of ten, a feat she accomplished on both the vault and the floor exercise. This remarkable achievement placed her alongside legendary gymnasts such as Nadia Comăneci and Ludmilla Tourischeva.

Following her illustrious competitive career, Kim transitioned into coaching, dedicating herself to training various national teams. Her expertise extended beyond coaching as she also served as a judge at numerous prestigious international competitions. As the president of the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Technical Committee, she played a pivotal role in the evolution of women's gymnastics, overseeing the implementation of new rules in accordance with the Code of Points established by the FIG in two thousand four and two thousand five.
