Nello Pagani

Cirillo Pagani, affectionately known as Nello, was born on October 11, 1911, in Milan, Lombardy. His illustrious career as a motorcycle racer and Formula One driver spanned from 1928 to 1955, marking him as a significant figure in the world of motorsport.

Pagani made history by becoming the first 125cc World Champion in the inaugural 1949 season. His remarkable performance nearly earned him a double championship that year, where he finished as the runner-up in the 500cc class. Despite scoring more overall points than his main rival, Englishman Les Graham, Pagani's championship hopes were dashed due to the scoring system that favored Graham's two wins and a second place over Pagani's two wins and a third.

In addition to his motorcycle racing achievements, Pagani also made his mark in car racing, securing victories at the Pau Grand Prix in both 1947 and 1948. His foray into Formula One came on June 4, 1950, during the Swiss Grand Prix at Bremgarten, where he finished seventh, though he did not score any championship points. That same year, he also placed fourth in the Modena Grand Prix, driving a Simca-Gordini.

By 1952, Pagani had shifted his focus more towards motorcycle racing, finishing second in class at the Mille Miglia while driving an OSCA. He took on the role of team manager for MV Agusta, further solidifying his legacy in the racing community. Nello Pagani was also the proud father of Alberto Pagani, who followed in his footsteps as a racing motorcyclist.
