Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Nelson Diebel

Nelson W. Diebel, born on November 9, 1970, in Hinsdale, Illinois, is a distinguished American former competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder. He is the son of Nelson W. Diebel Jr., a history professor, and Marge Diebel, a stockbroker. Growing up in Western Springs, a suburb of Chicago, Nelson's early life was marked by the challenges of his parents' divorce when he was just twelve years old.

During his formative years, Nelson attended McClure Junior High, where his rebellious spirit began to emerge. He later enrolled at Lyons Township High School, where he faced various struggles, including a few altercations. A bout of pneumonia caused him to miss eleven weeks of his freshman year, prompting his mother to transfer him to the Kent School, a private boarding institution in Connecticut. Unfortunately, his time there was short-lived, as he was expelled within six weeks due to fighting.

Throughout his high school years, Nelson grappled with poor academic performance, late nights, and issues related to alcohol and marijuana. His tumultuous teenage years included several car accidents, reflecting a period of instability and rebellion. Despite these challenges, Nelson's journey eventually led him to become a celebrated athlete, showcasing his resilience and determination.
