Nemanja Matić

Nemanja Matić, born on August 1, 1988, is a Serbian professional footballer renowned for his role as a defensive midfielder. Currently, he plays for Serie A club Sassuolo, showcasing his skills and experience on the Italian football stage.

Matić's football journey began at Kolubara, where he started his senior career before making a significant move to the Slovak side Košice in 2007. His talent caught the attention of English club Chelsea, who signed him for one and a half million pounds in 2009. Although his initial time at Chelsea saw limited playtime, a loan to Dutch club Vitesse during the 2010–11 season proved beneficial for his development.

In 2011, Matić transferred to Benfica as part of a swap deal involving David Luiz, where he truly flourished, earning the Primeira Liga Player of the Year award for the 2012–13 season. His return to Chelsea in January 2014 for twenty-one million pounds marked a turning point, as he became a key player in a team that clinched two Premier League titles. His outstanding performance earned him a spot in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2014–15 season.

In July 2017, Matić reunited with former Chelsea manager José Mourinho at Manchester United, where he played until 2022. He then followed Mourinho to Roma for a season before joining Rennes in 2023. On the international stage, Matić has represented Serbia at various levels, making his senior debut in 2008 and participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he earned over forty-eight caps.
