Nicholas Hooper

Nicholas Hooper, born in 1952, is a distinguished British composer and guitarist renowned for his contributions to film and television music. He gained recognition for scoring acclaimed BBC productions such as Land of the Tiger and Andes to Amazon, as well as notable TV movies including The Girl in the Café and My Family and Other Animals.

Hooper's talent has been recognized with prestigious awards, including a BAFTA Award and an Ivor Novello Award for Original Score in two thousand four for The Young Visiters, and a BAFTA for Best Original Television Music in two thousand seven for Prime Suspect: The Final Act. His early education at the Royal College of Music in the early 1970s laid the foundation for his illustrious career, where he began scoring films.

Among his most significant works are the scores for the Harry Potter films, specifically Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Collaborating with director David Yates, Hooper's music for these blockbusters garnered him a Grammy nomination. However, he opted not to return for the final two installments, which were scored by Alexandre Desplat.

In addition to his film work, Hooper composed the soundtrack for the Disney documentary African Cats, which was recognized as one of the ninety-seven original scores eligible for an Academy Award nomination in two thousand eleven. As a performing guitarist, he released a solo album titled 6 Strings in two thousand fifteen, featuring Irish folk music recorded at Abbey Road Studios. He continued to showcase his musical prowess with the duo Henderson:Hooper, releasing Pete's Trees in two thousand eighteen.

Hooper is also an accomplished author, having published three novels: Above the Void in two thousand seventeen, and the first two books in the Arnold Rackham detective thriller series, The Occasional Gardener in two thousand eighteen and The Mirror in the Ice Cream Parlour in two thousand nineteen. His third book is anticipated for release in two thousand twenty.
