Nicky Shorey, born on February 19, 1981, is an English former professional footballer renowned for his versatility as a left back and defensive midfielder. He began his career at Leyton Orient before making a significant move to Reading in 2001. Over the course of seven years, Shorey made just under three hundred appearances, playing a pivotal role in the club's ascent to the Premier League.

In 2008, Shorey signed with Aston Villa, where he faced challenges that limited him to fewer than forty appearances in two seasons. During his time at Villa, he was loaned to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, showcasing his adaptability in various competitive environments. In July 2010, he transferred to West Bromwich Albion for a fee of one million three hundred thousand pounds, contributing to fifty-three Premier League matches over two seasons.

After a four-year hiatus from Reading, Shorey returned to the club in July 2012, although he could only manage twenty-one appearances before moving to Bristol City the following season. His time at City was brief, lasting just five months before he joined Portsmouth in January 2014. In the summer of 2015, he ventured to India to play for Pune City in the Indian Super League, where he participated in every match of the season.

Shorey returned to England in January 2016, signing with League One club Colchester United, and ultimately concluded his playing career at Hungerford Town in the National League South. On the international stage, he represented England twice at full international level, both appearances occurring at Wembley Stadium in 2007 against Brazil and Germany, along with one cap for the England B team.
