Nicola Piovani

Nicola Piovani, born on May 26, 1946, is a distinguished Italian composer renowned for his contributions to contemporary classical music as well as film, television, and theatrical scores. A graduate of the prestigious Verdi Conservatory, he honed his craft under the guidance of the celebrated composer Manos Hatzidakis. Piovani embarked on his professional journey in the 1960s and has since composed over one hundred and ninety film scores, showcasing his prolific talent.

Throughout his illustrious career, Piovani has collaborated with some of the most eminent directors in the film industry, including Roberto Benigni, Giuseppe Tornatore, Mario Monicelli, Nanni Moretti, and the Taviani Brothers. Notably, he succeeded the legendary Nino Rota as Federico Fellini's preferred composer for the maestro's final three films, further solidifying his status in the cinematic world.

His work on Benigni's acclaimed film Life Is Beautiful, released in nineteen ninety-seven, earned him an Academy Award and a Grammy Award nomination, highlighting his exceptional ability to blend music with storytelling. Beyond film scores, Piovani's artistic endeavors extend to musical theatre and opera, as well as concert and chamber music, reflecting his versatility as a musician.
