Nicolás Massú

Nicolás Alejandro Massú Fried, known affectionately as El Vampiro, is a prominent figure in the world of tennis, both as a former professional player and a dedicated coach. Born on October 10, 1979, in Chile, Massú made a significant mark in the sport, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 9. His remarkable journey in tennis is highlighted by his extraordinary performance at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he made history by winning both the singles and doubles gold medals. This achievement not only made him the first man to secure both titles at the same Olympic Games since the reintroduction of tennis in 1988 but also earned Chile its first two Olympic gold medals.

Throughout his career, Massú showcased his talent on various stages, including reaching the final of the prestigious Madrid Masters in 2003 and clinching six singles titles. His competitive spirit and skill on the court have left an indelible mark on the sport, inspiring many aspiring tennis players.

After retiring from professional play, Massú transitioned into coaching, where he continued to influence the sport. He served as the coach for Dominic Thiem, the 2020 US Open champion and former world No. 3, from 2019 to 2023.
