Nie Haisheng, born on October thirteenth, nineteen sixty-four, is a distinguished major general in the Chinese People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force (PLASSF). He has made significant contributions as a taikonaut and serves as the third commander of the PLA Astronaut Corps (PLAAC). His career began as a fighter pilot in the PLA Air Force, where he also held the position of director of navigation.
Throughout his illustrious career, Nie has participated in multiple space missions, including Shenzhou 6, where he first ventured into space. He later commanded both the Shenzhou 10 and Shenzhou 12 missions. Notably, the Shenzhou 12 mission marked a historic moment as it was the first crew to visit the Tiangong space station.
In twenty twenty-one, Nie Haisheng achieved a remarkable milestone by spending a total of one hundred eleven days in space, setting a new record for the longest stay by a Chinese astronaut. He became the first Chinese astronaut to exceed one hundred days in space and is one of only two Chinese astronauts to have completed three spaceflights.
