Niklot

Niklot, born in the year one thousand one hundred, was a prominent aristocrat and a chief of the Slavic Obotrites. His lineage is notable as he is recognized as an ancestor of the House of Mecklenburg, a significant noble family in the region.

Between the years one thousand one hundred thirty and one thousand one hundred thirty-one, Niklot ascended to the position of chief of the Obotrite confederacy, which encompassed the Kissini and the Circipani tribes. His leadership was marked by a steadfast commitment to his people and their autonomy.

Throughout his tenure, which lasted until his death in one thousand one hundred sixty, Niklot held the title of Lord of Schwerin, Quetzin, and Malchow. His rule was characterized by nearly three decades of resistance against the encroaching Saxon princes, particularly the formidable Henry the Lion, during the tumultuous period of the Wendish Crusade.
