Nikola Kotkov, affectionately known as Koteto, was a prominent Bulgarian footballer born on December ninth, nineteen thirty-eight, in Sofia. He began his football journey as a trainee at Lokomotiv Sofia, where he honed his skills before making a significant impact at the club from nineteen fifty-six to nineteen sixty-nine. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in securing the Bulgarian Championship title in nineteen sixty-four.

After his successful stint with Lokomotiv, Kotkov joined Levski Sofia, where he continued to showcase his exceptional talent. Tragically, his life was cut short on June thirtieth, nineteen seventy-one, when he died in a traffic accident alongside his friend and teammate Georgi Asparuhov in the Vitinya Pass of the Balkan Mountains while traveling to Vratsa. Despite his untimely death, Kotkov's legacy lived on as he helped Levski Sofia clinch the championship title again in nineteen seventy, along with the Bulgarian Cup in the same year.

Throughout his career, Kotkov made a remarkable contribution to Bulgarian football, playing a total of three hundred twenty-two matches and scoring one hundred sixty-three goals in the Bulgarian Championship. His outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Bulgarian Footballer of the Year award in nineteen sixty-four. Additionally, he represented the Bulgaria national team, earning twenty-six caps and netting twelve goals, including participation in the nineteen sixty-six FIFA World Cup held in England.

Known for his technical prowess, precise passing, and skillful free-kick taking, Nikola Kotkov remains a celebrated figure in Bulgarian football history, remembered for his contributions both on and off the pitch.
