Nikola Žigić

Nikola Žigić, born on September twenty-fifth, nineteen eighty, in Bačka Topola, SFR Yugoslavia, is a distinguished former professional footballer who made his mark as a centre forward. His football journey began at a young age with AIK Bačka Topola, where he showcased his scoring prowess by netting sixty-eight goals in seventy-six first-team matches over three years in the third tier of Yugoslav football.

In two thousand one, military service took Žigić to Bar, allowing him to continue his football career with local club Mornar in the second division. After a brief return to the third tier with Kolubara, he turned professional with Red Star Belgrade in January two thousand three. His debut season was remarkable; despite his towering height of two point zero two meters, he ended the season as the First League's top scorer, was named domestic player of the year, and played a pivotal role in securing the league championship and cup final victory.

Žigić's successful tenure at Red Star saw him score seventy goals in one hundred nine appearances, including a second league-cup double in the two thousand five to two thousand six season. In August two thousand six, he signed with Spanish club Racing Santander, where his partnership with Pedro Munitis contributed to a solid mid-table finish in La Liga. His subsequent move to Valencia was less fruitful, leading to a loan back to Racing, where he scored thirteen goals in nineteen matches during the second half of the two thousand eight to two thousand nine season.

In two thousand ten, Žigić joined Birmingham City in the Premier League, scoring in their League Cup victory. Despite relegation, he remained with the club for the entirety of his four-year contract, even returning for the latter half of the two thousand fourteen to two thousand fifteen season after a brief period without a club. On the international stage, Žigić made his debut for Serbia and Montenegro in March two thousand four and continued to represent Serbia until two thousand eleven, earning fifty-seven caps and scoring twenty goals, including participation in the World Cups of two thousand six and two thousand ten.
