Nikolai Bulganin

Nikolai Bulganin, born on June eleventh, nineteen ninety-five in Nizhny Novgorod, was a prominent figure in Soviet politics and banking. His political journey began when he joined the Bolshevik Party in nineteen seventeen, quickly becoming a member of the Cheka, the Soviet political police, a year later. Following the Russian Civil War, he held various administrative roles, culminating in his appointment as chairman of the Moscow City Soviet in nineteen thirty-one, supported by Lazar Kaganovich.

A staunch Stalinist, Bulganin navigated the treacherous waters of Stalin's purges, rising to the position of premier of the Russian SFSR in nineteen thirty-seven and becoming a full member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. The following year, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Soviet Union and took charge of the Soviet State Bank. Although not a front-line commander, he played significant political roles in the Red Army during World War II and was part of Stalin's State Defense Committee.

In nineteen forty-seven, Bulganin succeeded Stalin as Minister for the Armed Forces and was elevated to the rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union. By early nineteen forty-eight, he had become a full member of the Politburo. After Stalin's death in nineteen fifty-three, Bulganin aligned himself with Nikita Khrushchev during the latter's power struggle against Georgy Malenkov. In nineteen fifty-five, he ascended to the role of Premier of the Soviet Union, initially as a close ally of Khrushchev.

However, as time passed, Bulganin grew skeptical of Khrushchev's policies and became associated with an opposition faction led by Vyacheslav Molotov. The defeat of this group marked the beginning of Bulganin's decline, leading to his dismissal as premier in nineteen fifty-eight and subsequent expulsion from the Politburo. Ultimately, he was forced into retirement and passed away in nineteen seventy-five at the age of seventy-nine.
