As the younger daughter of Russian Jewish émigré screenwriter Jacques Companéez, she was immersed in the world of storytelling from an early age. Her familial ties extended to her sister, contralto Irène Companeez, and her daughter, actress Valentine Varela, showcasing a legacy of artistic talent.

Throughout her career, Companeez collaborated extensively with renowned filmmaker Michel Deville, crafting scripts that would resonate with audiences.
