Nino Burjanadze, born on July sixteenth, nineteen sixty-four, is a prominent Georgian politician, lawyer, and university teacher. She made history by serving as the Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia from November two thousand one to June two thousand eight, becoming a significant figure in the country's political landscape.
Burjanadze was the first woman to act as the head of state of Georgia, a role she undertook twice. Her first term came in the wake of the Rose Revolution, where she served from November twenty-third, two thousand three, to January twenty-fifth, two thousand four, following the resignation of Eduard Shevardnadze. She returned to this position from November twenty-fifth, two thousand seven, to January twentieth, two thousand eight, after Mikheil Saakashvili stepped down to participate in early presidential elections.
In two thousand eight, Burjanadze transitioned into opposition, leading the Democratic Movement – United Georgia party against Saakashvili. Her political journey continued as she ran in the presidential election of two thousand thirteen, where she faced twenty-two other candidates and secured third place with ten percent of the vote.
