Nino Ricci, a prominent Canadian novelist, was born on August twenty-third, nineteen fifty-nine, in Leamington, Ontario, to Italian immigrants Virginio and Amelia Ricci, who hailed from the province of Isernia, Molise. Currently residing in Toronto, Ontario, Ricci's literary journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from York University in nineteen eighty-one, followed by a Master's in Creative Writing from Concordia University in nineteen eighty-seven.

Ricci's passion for literature has taken him beyond Canada, as he spent two years teaching English literature and language in Nigeria. His experiences abroad have undoubtedly enriched his writing, contributing to the depth and authenticity found in his works.

His debut novel, Lives of the Saints, marked a significant milestone in his career, garnering both critical acclaim and commercial success. The novel won several prestigious awards, including the Books in Canada First Novel Award, the Governor General's Award for Fiction in nineteen ninety, and a Betty Trask Award. This novel also serves as the first installment of a trilogy, followed by In a Glass House in nineteen ninety-three and Where She Has Gone in nineteen ninety-seven.

In addition to his writing, Ricci has been actively involved in the literary community, serving as a director of PEN Canada from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-six, and holding the position of president during the nineteen ninety-five to nineteen ninety-six term. He also contributed to academia as the writer-in-residence at the University of Windsor for the two thousand five to two thousand six academic year.
