Noor Jehan

Noor Jehan, born on September twenty-first, nineteen twenty-six, was a luminary in the world of South Asian music and cinema. Her illustrious career spanned over six decades, during which she made significant contributions to both British Indian and Pakistani cinema. Renowned for her exceptional talent, she was proficient in Hindustani classical music and excelled in various genres, including ghazals.

In nineteen fifty-one, Noor Jehan made history by becoming the first female film director in Pakistan with her directorial debut, Chann Wey. This milestone not only showcased her versatility but also paved the way for future generations of female filmmakers in the region. Her remarkable journey earned her the title of Malika-e-Tarannum, meaning 'Queen of Melody,' a testament to her profound impact on music in Pakistan.

Throughout her career, Noor Jehan recorded approximately ten thousand songs in multiple languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, and Sindhi. She holds a remarkable record alongside Ahmed Rushdi for having lent her voice to the largest number of film songs in the history of Pakistani cinema. In total, she sang two thousand four hundred twenty-two songs for one thousand one hundred forty-eight Pakistani films, solidifying her legacy as one of the most celebrated artists in the industry.
