Norman Lloyd

Norman Lloyd was a remarkable American actor, producer, and director whose career in the entertainment industry spanned nearly a century. Born on November eighth, nineteen fourteen, he began his journey in the arts in nineteen twenty-three, showcasing his talents across theatre, radio, television, and film. His final film, Trainwreck, was released in two thousand fifteen, after he celebrated his one hundredth birthday, marking him as a true centenarian in the industry.

In the 1930s, Lloyd honed his craft at Eva Le Gallienne's Civic Repertory Theatre and collaborated with influential groups such as the Federal Theatre Project's Living Newspaper unit, the Mercury Theatre, and the Group Theatre. His long-standing association with the legendary Alfred Hitchcock began with his role as a fifth columnist in the film Saboteur in nineteen forty-two, followed by appearances in Spellbound in nineteen forty-five and serving as a producer for Hitchcock's anthology series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Lloyd directed and produced numerous episodic television shows, further solidifying his legacy in the industry. As an actor, he graced over sixty films and television shows, with memorable roles including Bodalink in Charlie Chaplin's Limelight in nineteen fifty-two, Mr. Nolan in Dead Poets Society in nineteen eighty-nine, and Mr. Letterblair in The Age of Innocence in nineteen ninety-three. In the 1980s, he captured the hearts of a new generation as Dr. Daniel Auschlander in the acclaimed medical drama St. Elsewhere.
