Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Norman Manley

Norman Manley, born on July fourth, nineteen ninety-three, was a prominent Jamaican statesman and the first and only Premier of Jamaica. A distinguished Rhodes Scholar, he emerged as one of the leading lawyers in Jamaica during the 1920s, advocating for significant social reforms.

Manley's political journey began in earnest when he was inspired by Osmond Theodore Fairclough and others to co-found the People's National Party in nineteen thirty-eight. Under his leadership, the PNP became a powerful force in Jamaican politics, successfully campaigning for universal suffrage, which was granted by the British colonial government in nineteen forty-four.

He served as the Chief Minister of Jamaica from nineteen fifty-five to nineteen fifty-nine and then as Premier from nineteen fifty-nine until nineteen sixty-two. A strong proponent of self-government, Manley initially supported the Federation of the West Indies but later called a referendum in nineteen sixty-one, which resulted in a decision for Jamaica to withdraw from the union.

Following this, he played a crucial role in negotiating Jamaica's independence from the United Kingdom, which was achieved on August sixth, nineteen sixty-two. Despite his efforts, the PNP lost the general election later that year, leading Manley to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition.
