Odile of Alsace

Odile of Alsace, also known as Odilia or Ottilia, was born around the year six hundred sixty-two and is celebrated as a significant figure in both the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Her life unfolded at Mont Sainte-Odile, where she became a revered abbess and a symbol of spiritual guidance.

Venerated as a saint, Odile is particularly recognized as the patroness of good eyesight, a role that has endeared her to many throughout the ages. Her influence extends beyond her spiritual contributions, as she is also regarded as a protector of the Alsace region, embodying the cultural and religious heritage of the area.

Saint Odile's legacy is commemorated annually with a feast day on the thirteenth of December, while in Alsace, the celebration continues on the fourteenth. This dual observance highlights her importance in the local traditions and the enduring impact of her life and work.
