Olavo de Carvalho

Olavo de Carvalho, born on April twenty-ninth, nineteen forty-seven, was a Brazilian self-proclaimed philosopher and a prominent figure in the realms of political commentary, journalism, and astrology. His career spanned several decades, beginning in the 1980s, during which he published extensively on topics related to politics, literature, and philosophy. However, it was in the 1990s that he gained significant recognition among Brazilian audiences, particularly through his columns in major media outlets like the newspaper O Globo.

In the early 2000s, Carvalho embraced the digital age, utilizing personal blogs and social media platforms to disseminate his conservative and anti-communist ideologies. His influence surged in the late 2010s, earning him the title of the 'intellectual father of the new right' and the ideologue of Jair Bolsonaro, a label he notably rejected. His writings often sparked controversy, as they were filled with conspiracy theories and misinformation, leading to accusations of promoting hate speech and anti-intellectualism.

Carvalho positioned himself as a critic of modernity, delving into subjects such as historical philosophy, revolutionary movements, the Traditionalist School, and comparative religion. He spent the latter part of his life residing near Richmond, Virginia, in the United States, where he continued to engage in public discourse until his passing in 2022, shortly after testing positive for COVID-19.
