His roles in notable films such as The Alive and the Dead (nineteen sixty-four), Three Poplars in Plyushchikha (nineteen sixty-seven), and the comedies Aybolit-66 and Beware of the Car (both in nineteen sixty-six) solidified his status as a beloved actor, with each appearance on screen becoming a significant event for millions.

In nineteen fifty-six, he founded the Studio of Young Actors, which later evolved into the renowned Sovremennik Theatre, where he served as the first director. His influence extended to the Moscow Art Theatre named after Maxim Gorky, where he became the Chief Producer in nineteen seventy.
