Alongside his teammates Jared Connaughton, Gavin Smellie, and Justyn Warner, the Canadian team initially celebrated a third-place finish. However, their joy was short-lived as they were disqualified due to a lane violation by Connaughton, resulting in Trinidad and Tobago being awarded the bronze medal.

Six years later, Smith transitioned to winter sports, participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics as a bobsledder. He joined forces with teammates Justin Kripps, Jesse Lumsden, and Alexander Kopacz in the four-man bobsleigh competition.
