Olympias

Olympias, born in three hundred seventy-five BC, was a prominent ancient Greek princess hailing from the Molossians. As the eldest daughter of King Neoptolemus I of Epirus and sister to Alexander I of Epirus, she was deeply rooted in the royal lineage of her time.

Her most significant legacy is her role as the mother of Alexander the Great, whom she bore with Philip II, the king of Macedonia. Olympias was not just a maternal figure; she wielded considerable influence over Alexander's life and decisions, often being recognized as the de facto leader of Macedon during his expansive conquests.

Following the untimely death of Alexander the Great, Olympias became embroiled in the tumultuous struggle for power regarding the succession of his vast empire. She championed the cause of her grandson, Alexander IV, successfully defeating Adea Eurydice to secure his place in the line of succession. However, her fortunes turned when she was ultimately defeated by Cassander, leading to her execution and the tragic assassination of Alexander IV before he could ever claim his rightful power.
