Orcagna

Orcagna, born in the year 1315, was a multifaceted artist whose talents spanned painting, sculpture, architecture, and poetry. His work at Orsanmichele garnered immediate acclaim, showcasing his ability to blend artistic vision with architectural prowess. The tabernacle he designed, with the help of a skilled team of sculptors and masons, featured an impressive one hundred seventeen figural sculptures and reliefs, all part of a grand domed structure.

Among his most notable contributions is the Strozzi Altarpiece, created between the years 1354 and 1357. This masterpiece is significant for its innovative portrayal of Christ, who is depicted as a central figure actively distributing the keys of the church to St. Peter and imparting Dominican theology to Thomas Aquinas.
