Oriol Romeu

Oriol Romeu, born on September 24, 1991, is a distinguished Spanish professional footballer renowned for his role as a defensive midfielder. Currently, he plays for EFL Championship club Southampton, where he has made a significant impact on the field.

Romeu's football journey began at FC Barcelona, where he primarily showcased his talents with the reserves at Barcelona B. In 2011, he made a pivotal move to Chelsea for a transfer fee of five million euros, which marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in his career. During his time with Chelsea, he gained valuable experience through loan spells at Valencia and VfB Stuttgart.

In 2015, Romeu joined Southampton, where he became a key player, amassing an impressive 256 appearances during his first tenure with the club. After a brief stint with Girona in 2022, he returned to Barcelona in July 2023. However, he spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Girona before rejoining Southampton in November 2025.

On the international stage, Romeu represented Spain at various youth levels, including the under-21 team. He was a proud member of the under-17 squad that clinched the European Championship in 2008 and also participated in the 2012 Olympics, showcasing his talent on a global platform.
