Osborne Colson

Osborne Colson, born on March 31, 1916, in Toronto, Ontario, was a prominent figure in the world of figure skating, both as a competitor and a coach. His early life was deeply intertwined with the sport, as his father was one of the founders of the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, which laid the foundation for his future in skating.

Colson's competitive career was marked by significant achievements, including winning the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in both nineteen thirty-six and nineteen thirty-seven. He trained under the guidance of the esteemed coach Gus Lussi, which helped him hone his skills and prepare for a successful career. Following his competitive days, he showcased his talent professionally with the Ice Follies, captivating audiences with his performances.

Transitioning from skater to coach, Colson made a lasting impact on the sport by mentoring several notable skaters, including Barbara Ann Scott, Donald Jackson, Patrick Chan, and Sarah Kawahara. His coaching prowess was evident when Patrick Chan won the Canadian junior championship in two thousand five under Colson's guidance, demonstrating his ability to nurture talent.

Even in his later years, Colson remained actively involved in figure skating, continuing to inspire and train the next generation of skaters. Sadly, he passed away in Toronto on July 14, 2006, due to pneumonia and complications from a car accident earlier that year, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence the sport.
