Oskar Barnack

Oskar Barnack, born on November first, eighteen seventy-nine, was a pioneering German inventor and photographer whose contributions to the world of photography are still celebrated today. His engineering background provided him with the skills necessary to innovate in a field that was rapidly evolving during his lifetime.

In nineteen thirteen, Barnack designed and built what would become the first commercially successful thirty-five millimeter still camera, known as the Ur-Leica. This groundbreaking invention was developed at the Ernst Leitz Optische Werke, commonly referred to as the Leitz factory, located in Wetzlar, Germany.

The Ur-Leica revolutionized photography by making it more accessible and portable, allowing photographers to capture moments with unprecedented ease and quality.
