Otto Loewi

Otto Loewi, born on June third, eighteen seventy-three, was a pioneering German-born pharmacologist and psychobiologist. His groundbreaking research led to the discovery of acetylcholine as an endogenous neurotransmitter, a finding that significantly advanced the field of neuroscience.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to science, Loewi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in nineteen thirty-six. He shared this prestigious honor with his lifelong friend, Sir Henry Dale, who played a crucial role in inspiring the experiments that led to this monumental discovery.

The two scientists first crossed paths in nineteen hundred and two while working in Ernest Starling's laboratory at University College, London.
