Outkast

Outkast, the iconic American hip-hop duo, emerged from Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992, formed by high school friends Antwan Patton, known as Big Boi, and André Benjamin, formerly known as Dré and now André 3000. They are celebrated as one of the most influential acts in hip-hop history, recognized for their intricate lyricism, catchy melodies, and positive themes that helped to elevate Southern hip-hop during the mid-1990s to mid-2000s.

Their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, released in 1994, marked the beginning of their ascent, with the single "Player's Ball" achieving significant success on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. The duo continued to refine their sound with subsequent albums, ATLiens in 1996 and Aquemini in 1998, both of which received critical acclaim and solidified their place in the music industry.

Outkast reached new heights with their fourth album, Stankonia, released in 2000, featuring hit singles like "B.O.B." and the Grammy-winning "Ms. Jackson." Their innovative approach culminated in the double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned Diamond certification from the RIAA. This album produced chart-topping singles such as "The Way You Move" and "Hey Ya!" and won Album of the Year at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.

In addition to their musical achievements, Outkast starred in the 2006 film Idlewild, releasing the accompanying soundtrack as their final album before their split in 2007. The duo briefly reunited in 2014 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their debut album, performing at over forty festivals worldwide, starting with Coachella. With certified sales exceeding twenty million records across six studio albums and a compilation album, Outkast has earned six Grammy Awards and is consistently ranked among the greatest duos in music history.

On November 8, 2025, Outkast was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, further cementing their legacy as one of hip-hop's most successful and influential acts.
