Ovide Charlebois

Ovide Charlebois, born on February twelfth, eighteen sixty-two, was a dedicated Canadian Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate who made significant contributions to the Catholic Church as the Apostolic Vicar of Keewatin. Appointed in nineteen ten, he served in this role until his passing, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he served.

Charlebois was known for his extensive travels across Saskatchewan, where he worked tirelessly in the missions, reaching out to isolated minorities. His commitment to teaching catechism and ministering to those interested in converting to the faith showcased his deep dedication to his religious mission.

As a bishop, Charlebois gained the freedom to expand his efforts, leading to the establishment of new chapels and schools throughout his apostolic vicariate. He divided the region into three parts for better management, ensuring that education and infrastructure flourished in these communities.

In addition to his educational initiatives, Charlebois founded a newspaper aimed at connecting the more isolated communities, further demonstrating his commitment to outreach and communication. His beatification process began in the nineteen fifties, and he was recognized as a Servant of God, a title that was later elevated to venerable by Pope Francis on November twenty-eighth, two thousand nineteen.
