Owen Pallett

Owen Pallett, born on September seventh, nineteen seventy-nine, is a multifaceted Canadian artist renowned for his work as a composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist. Initially gaining recognition under the pseudonym Final Fantasy, Pallett captured the prestigious Polaris Music Prize in two thousand six for the acclaimed album He Poos Clouds. His innovative approach to music has made him a significant figure in the indie music scene.

Beyond his solo endeavors, Pallett is celebrated for his contributions to the acclaimed band Arcade Fire, where he has served as both a string arranger and a touring member. His collaboration with Arcade Fire reached new heights when he and band member William Butler received a nomination for Best Original Score at the eighty-sixth Academy Awards for their work on the film Her in two thousand thirteen.

Pallett's musical journey began at the tender age of three when he started studying classical violin, composing his first piece by the age of thirteen. His early works include contributions to the video game Traffic Department 2192, and he later expanded his repertoire to include film scoring and the composition of two operas during his university years.

In addition to his solo projects and work with Arcade Fire, Pallett has collaborated with a diverse array of artists across genres. His arrangements and instrumentation have enhanced the works of pop icons such as Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran, as well as rock legends like R.E.M., Linkin Park, Franz Ferdinand, the National, and Alex Turner. Pallett's live performances are particularly noteworthy, featuring his unique use of a loop pedal to create multi-phonic looping with his violin, utilizing Max/MSP and SooperLooper to amplify his sound across the stage.
