Özgür Özel

Özgür Özel, born on September 21, 1974, is a prominent Turkish pharmacist and politician, currently leading the Republican People's Party (CHP) since 2023. His political journey has been marked by a commitment to social justice and activism, particularly in advocating for the rights of miners in Manisa Province.

Since the 2011 general election, Özel has represented the electoral district of Manisa as a Member of Parliament. His dedication to his constituents and his leadership within the CHP has solidified his reputation as a key figure in Turkish politics.

Before assuming the role of party leader, he shared the parliamentary deputy group leadership of the CHP with Engin Altay and Levent Gök from 2015 to 2023. His collaborative approach has been instrumental in shaping the party's direction during a transformative period.

In addition to his national responsibilities, Özel has also taken on an international role, serving as vice president of the Socialist International since February 2024, further extending his influence beyond Turkey's borders.
