Percival Noel James Patterson, known as P. J. Patterson, was born on April 10, 1935, and is a distinguished Jamaican politician and lawyer. He made history by serving as the sixth prime minister of Jamaica from 1992 to 2006, a remarkable tenure of fourteen years that marks him as the longest-serving prime minister in the nation's history. Patterson's political career began in earnest when he was elected as the member of Parliament for Westmoreland South Eastern, a position he held from 1970 until 1980. After a brief hiatus, he returned to Parliament in 1989, serving until 1993. Following a reorganization of constituencies, he represented Westmoreland Eastern from 1993 until his retirement in January 2006.
