Pablo Escobar, born on December first, nineteen forty-nine, in Rionegro, Colombia, emerged as a notorious figure in the world of crime and politics. He was the founder and leader of the Medellín Cartel, which dominated the cocaine trade into the United States during the 1980s and early 1990s. Known as the 'King of Cocaine', Escobar amassed an estimated net worth of thirty billion dollars by the time of his death, making him one of the wealthiest criminals in history.

Raised in Medellín, Escobar's early ventures into criminality included selling illegal cigarettes and fake lottery tickets. His criminal career escalated in the early 1970s when he began working for drug smugglers, engaging in kidnappings and ransom schemes. In nineteen seventy-six, he established the Medellín Cartel, which was pivotal in creating smuggling routes for cocaine from Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador into the United States.

As Escobar's influence grew, so did the violence associated with his operations. By the 1980s, he was reportedly leading shipments of seventy to eighty tons of cocaine into the U.S. each month. His rise to power was marked by brutal conflicts with rival cartels, resulting in numerous deaths, including police officers, judges, and politicians. Despite his criminal activities, Escobar ventured into politics, being elected as an alternate member of the Chamber of Representatives in the nineteen eighty-two Colombian parliamentary election, where he initiated community projects that earned him local support.

Escobar's political aspirations were ultimately thwarted by the Colombian and U.S. governments, leading to his surrender in nineteen ninety-one. He was sentenced to five years in a self-built prison, La Catedral, but escaped in nineteen ninety-two, prompting a nationwide manhunt. His life came to a violent end in nineteen ninety-three when he was killed by the Colombian National Police, just a day after his forty-fourth birthday. Despite the heinous nature of his crimes, many in Colombia viewed him as a 'Robin Hood-like' figure, and his death was mourned by thousands.
