Paruyr Hayrikyan, born on July fifth, nineteen forty-nine, is a prominent Armenian politician, writer, singer, and lyricist. He emerged as a significant figure in the struggle for Armenia's independence from the Soviet Union, becoming an early member and leader of the National United Party (NUP). His dedication to dissident activities led to his imprisonment in Soviet correctional facilities for approximately eighteen years.
In nineteen eighty-eight, Hayrikyan was expelled from the Soviet Union due to his political activities, but he was permitted to return two years later. Following Armenia's independence in nineteen ninety-one, he continued to play a vital role in the nation's politics as the leader of the Union for National Self-Determination, the successor to the NUP.
Hayrikyan participated in presidential elections in nineteen ninety-one and two thousand thirteen, during which he survived an assassination attempt. Beyond his political endeavors, he is also an accomplished writer and composer, having created several popular patriotic songs that resonate with the Armenian spirit.
