Parviz Tanavoli

Parviz Tanavoli, born on March 23, 1937, is a distinguished Iranian sculptor, painter, educator, and art historian. Renowned for his pivotal role in the Saqqakhaneh movement, a neo-traditionalist art movement, Tanavoli has made significant contributions to the world of contemporary art.

His iconic series of sculptures, known as Heech, have garnered international acclaim and are prominently displayed in prestigious institutions such as the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Aga Khan Museum. Additionally, his works can be found in public art installations in Vancouver and at Hamline University, showcasing his influence across borders.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Tanavoli is also a prolific writer, having extensively documented the history of Persian art and craftsmanship. His dual citizenship in Iran and Canada since 1989 reflects his deep connection to both cultures, as he continues to live and work in Tehran and Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver.
