Pasquale Passarelli

Pasquale Passarelli, born on March 14, 1957, in Italy, is a distinguished retired wrestler who made a significant mark in the Greco-Roman bantamweight division. At the tender age of five, he relocated to West Germany, where he would later rise to prominence in the world of amateur wrestling.

In 1981, Passarelli achieved remarkable success by clinching both a world title and a European title, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. His crowning achievement came in 1984 when he secured an Olympic gold medal, solidifying his legacy as one of the greats in wrestling. Notably, he missed the 1980 Olympics due to the boycott imposed by West Germany, a decision that would shape his competitive journey.

After retiring from wrestling following the 1984 Olympics, Passarelli transitioned into a career as a real estate agent in Southern Germany. His passion for the sport remained evident as he took on the role of coach at KSV Berghausen from 2001 to 2005, mentoring the next generation of wrestlers.

Wrestling runs in the family, as his brothers Claudio and Thomas are also retired competitive wrestlers, further highlighting the family's deep-rooted connection to the sport.
