He began his career with the renowned comedy troupe The Second City in Chicago, where he honed his skills in improvisational comedy. Finn first captured the public's attention with his prominent role as Dan Coleman on the CBS sitcom The George Wendt Show in nineteen ninety-five.

Following his success on The George Wendt Show, Finn showcased his versatility with recurring roles on popular television series. He portrayed Phil Jr. on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown from nineteen ninety-five to nineteen ninety-seven and later took on the character Jim Frost in the NBC comedy-drama series Ed from two thousand one to two thousand two. Throughout the 2000s, he also appeared in several comedy films, including Dude, Where's My Car? in two thousand, How High in two thousand one, and I Love You, Beth Cooper in two thousand nine.

One of Finn's most memorable roles was as Bill Norwood, a recurring character on the ABC sitcom The Middle, which aired from two thousand eleven to two thousand eighteen.
