Pat Symonds

Pat Symonds, born on June eleventh, nineteen fifty-three, is a distinguished British motor racing engineer currently serving as the executive engineering consultant for the Cadillac Formula One team. His extensive career in motorsport has seen him hold pivotal roles at several renowned teams, including a notable tenure as Chief Technical Officer at Williams Grand Prix Engineering from two thousand thirteen to two thousand sixteen.

Symonds began his journey in the world of motorsport in lower categories before making his mark at Toleman in the early nineteen eighties. After a brief stint with the ill-fated Reynard Formula One project alongside chief designer Rory Byrne in nineteen ninety-one, he returned to Benetton, where he became an integral part of Team Enstone. His expertise contributed to the success of legendary drivers Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, leading them to secure four World Championships between nineteen ninety-four and two thousand six.

Throughout his career, Symonds has been associated with teams that have clinched four Drivers' titles, three Constructors' titles, and a remarkable total of forty-two Grands Prix victories, with twenty-two wins attributed to Benetton and twenty to Renault. However, his career faced a significant challenge in September two thousand nine when he resigned from Renault due to his involvement in the infamous Crashgate scandal during the two thousand eight Singapore Grand Prix.

Following an investigation by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Symonds received a three-year ban from operational roles in Formula One, although he was permitted to act in a consultative capacity. His ban, along with that of Renault's Managing Director Flavio Briatore, was later overturned by a French Tribunal de Grande Instance, allowing Symonds to continue his influential presence in the sport.
