Patriarch Job of Moscow

Patriarch Job of Moscow, born in 1525, served as the Metropolitan of Moscow and all Rus' from 1587 to 1589. His tenure marked a significant period in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, as he was the seventeenth metropolitan appointed without the traditional approval of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.

In 1589, a pivotal moment occurred when Jeremias II, the patriarch of Constantinople, recognized Job's position and elevated him to the status of the first Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus'. This elevation not only solidified his authority but also established a new precedent for the Russian Orthodox Church.
