Patrick Ortlieb

Patrick Ortlieb, born on May seventeenth, nineteen sixty-seven, in Bregenz, Vorarlberg, is a distinguished former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist from Austria. Renowned for his prowess in speed events, he clinched the gold medal in the downhill event at the 1992 Winter Olympics held in France. His remarkable career also includes a world championship title in downhill skiing in nineteen ninety-six.

Ortlieb's skiing journey began at the tender age of three, leading him to achieve significant milestones, including twenty World Cup podium finishes and sixty top ten placements. Notably, he finished fourth in the downhill event at the nineteen ninety-four Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, just a month after triumphing in the prestigious downhill race at Kitzbühel, Austria.

Tragically, Ortlieb's racing career came to an abrupt end in January nineteen ninety-nine, when he suffered a severe crash during a practice run at Kitzbühel. The accident resulted in a compound fracture of his right femur and a dislocated right hip, forcing him to retire from competitive skiing at the age of thirty-one.

Following his skiing career, Ortlieb transitioned into politics, serving a three-year term in the National Council of Austria for the Freedom Party of Austria. Today, he is the proud manager of Hotel Montana, a four-star establishment located in Lech am Arlberg, Vorarlberg. Additionally, he is the father of fellow alpine skier Nina Ortlieb, continuing the legacy of excellence in skiing.
