Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira, born on June 23, 1976, is a distinguished figure in the world of football, celebrated both as a former player and a coach. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, earning a place in the FIFA 100 list of the greatest living footballers in 2004. Vieira's playing career began at Cannes, where his exceptional performances led to a transfer to AC Milan in Serie A.

In 1996, Vieira made a pivotal move to England, joining Arsenal under the guidance of fellow countryman Arsène Wenger for a transfer fee of three and a half million pounds. Over his nine-year tenure in the Premier League, he became known for his commanding presence as a box-to-box midfielder, characterized by his aggressive and competitive style. As captain from 2002 until his departure in 2005, he played a crucial role in Arsenal's success, securing four FA Cups and three league titles, including an unbeaten season. His remarkable consistency earned him a spot in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year for six consecutive years from 1999 to 2004.

After returning to Italy, Vieira joined Juventus but left shortly after due to the club's relegation linked to the Calciopoli scandal. He then signed with Inter Milan, where he enjoyed further success, winning four consecutive league titles. His career continued at Manchester City, where he added another FA Cup to his accolades before retiring in 2011.

On the international stage, Vieira represented France for twelve years, including a stint as captain. He was instrumental in France's triumph at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and their victory at UEFA Euro 2000. Vieira also participated in the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004, and the 2006 World Cup, where France finished as runners-up. He concluded his international career in 2010, having made 107 appearances for his country.

Post-retirement, Vieira transitioned into coaching, starting as the head of the academy at Manchester City in 2013. He later managed New York City FC in Major League Soccer, followed by stints at Ligue 1 club Nice, Premier League side Crystal Palace, and Ligue 1 club Strasbourg. In 2024, he took the helm at Italian club Genoa but was dismissed in October 2025 with the team at the bottom of the table.
