Paul Bern, born on December third, eighteen eighty-nine, was a notable figure in the American film industry, recognized for his multifaceted roles as a film director, screenwriter, producer, and stage actor. Originally from Germany, he made a significant impact at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), where he served as the assistant to the esteemed producer Irving Thalberg.
Throughout his career, Bern played a pivotal role in launching the career of the iconic actress Jean Harlow. Their professional relationship blossomed into a personal one, culminating in their marriage in July nineteen thirty-two. However, this union was tragically short-lived.
Just two months after their wedding, Bern was found dead from a gunshot wound, a death that was initially ruled a suicide. The circumstances surrounding his passing have led to various alternative theories, including speculation from MGM writer and producer Samuel Marx, who suggested that Bern may have been murdered by his ex-common-law wife, Dorothy Millette. This theory gained traction after Millette's own tragic death, when she jumped from a ferry just two days later.
