Paul Hait, born on May 25, 1940, in Pasadena, California, is a distinguished American former competition swimmer renowned for his prowess in breaststroke. Growing up in the San Jose area, he attended James Lick High School, where he not only excelled in swimming but also served as team captain. Under the guidance of coach Gene Nyquist, Hait made a significant mark in the sport, setting a high school record in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Carlmont Invitational Aqua-Pentathalon in 1958 with a time of 1:10.6. His exceptional talent earned him All-American honors in 1960.
Hait's swimming career reached its pinnacle when he competed for Stanford University, where he became a champion at the 1960 Rome Olympics and a former world record-holder. After graduating in 1963 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, he transitioned into a successful engineering career at Varian Industries, where he worked until 1968.
In 1970, Hait founded Aroma Taste, a California-based food company, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. He later served as President of Pyromid Corporation from 1981 to 2000, where he designed energy-efficient grills and stoves. His innovative contributions to engineering and design led him to hold over seventy patents, many stemming from his work at Varian and Pyromid.
