After the show's original creator, Stephen Hillenburg, stepped down in two thousand four, Tibbitt ascended to the role of showrunner, overseeing the series from its fourth to ninth seasons. In addition to his role as showrunner, Tibbitt took on the voice of Potty the Parrot, a character previously voiced by Hillenburg.
